We have an exceptional opportunity for a part time Health Educator to join our healthcare team at the Maryland Correctional Institution located in Hagerstown, MD.

Hours: Part time (10 hours a week).

Summary:

Under the direction of the Statewide Director of Nurses, the Certified Health Educator (CHE) is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and implementing a comprehensive womens health education program for female offenders at the Maryland Correctional Institution for Women. The CHE serves as the primary contact person for nursing, OB-GYN providers, and support services related to womens health education. Establishes relationships and womens health education resources with community based programs and outreach programs.

Qualifications of a Certified Education Coordinator:

Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing

Licensure as a Registered Nurse or Nurse Practitioner

Certification as a Health Educator

Master's degree in nursing, health education

Four years' professional experience in health education (womens health preferred)

Recent nursing experience with clinical focus preferred.

May have an equivalent combination of education and experience to substitute for both the education and the experience requirements.

Responsibilities of a Corizon Certified Health Educator:

The CHE designs and implements a comprehensive womens health education curriculum consisting of one four (4) hour session at least 3 days per week. The program may expand to five (5) days per week.

The womens health education program shall include but not be limited to comprehensive family planning services, preconception counselling to decrease risk of unintended pregnancy, education related to STIs, HIV, Hepatitis A,B and C, normal and abnormal discharges, pap smear, mammograms, cervical and breast cancer, breast feeding, nutrition, exercise during pregnancy, pregnancy spotting and cramping, first trimester terminations of pregnancy, alcohol and drug abuse, trauma and impact on clinical encounters.

The CHE will develop relationships with and include public health and community resource participants from Baltimore City in the womens health education program.

Establishes and maintains a resource pool of health professionals, current health care information, instructional aids, and media and material resources to assist and support womens health education.

Functions as a liaison with community health professionals to promote womens health education programs and services.

Collaborates with nursing and OB-GYN staff to provide instruction, presentation and dissemination of appropriate educational materials based on current and evidenced based practices and national accreditation standards for quality health care delivery.. Provides differentiated instruction to meet the needs of those instructed.

Provides monthly statistical reporting on program participation and other reports as required and conducts on-going evaluation of the womens health education program service delivery model.

Facilitate offender patient focus groups, health education seminars, and health fairs.

Participate in offender patient discharge planning to ensure continuity of care upon release into the community.

Serve as a health education resource for clinical and administrative staff and participate iin in-service education as needed.

Maintain confidentiality of all correspondence and medical files.
