We have an exceptional opportunity for a Correctional Medical Specialist (CMS) at South Idaho Correctional Institution located in Kuna, ID.

Correctional care is a highly specialized field of nursing that allows you autonomy and the rare opportunity to use most of your nursing skills. You may see triage care, dentistry, lab, x-ray, ophthalmology, infirmaries, emergency rooms, and much more. Correctional nurses are the first on the scene healthcare providers, so no two days are alike. We welcome nurses from all backgrounds including, but not limited to new graduates, nursing homes, hospitals, dialysis, home health, and doctors offices. You will be able to treat trauma, chronic illness, substance abuse, and mental illness to name a few.

Mentor and Preceptor Programs
*Perform and document vital signs readings.
*Perform and record twelve-(12) lead EKGs.
*Assists physicians with minor procedures.
*Implement orders for patient monitoring as prescribed in accordance with established policies and procedures and scope of practice.
*Obtain specimens as directed in accordance with established policies and procedures and scope of practice.
*Correctional Medical Specialists may perform specialized procedures such as, but not limited to, laceration repairs, casting, venipuncture, and initiating intravenous therapy after proficiency has been demonstrated.
*Maintains and cleans the health services equipment daily and as needed.
*Maintains inventory of supplies at established par levels.
*Maintains health services areas in clean, neat, and safe manner.
*Participates in the counts of pharmaceuticals and items subject to abuse.
*Documents patient care in accordance with established policies and procedures and in the approved format. (i.e. SOAP)
*Maintains health services and patient care logs as directed.
*Utilize Nursing Encounter tools (NETS) during patient encounters related to sick call and emergency care.
*Other duties as assigned.
*Previous experience and completion of a military medical program is required.
*At least 2 years of administrative experience or the equivalent of education and experience.
*One year of experience in a health care setting.
*Basic life support certification.
*Successful completion of written examinations, as required.
*Proficiency with typing and computer skills.
