Responsibilities

As the Director of Nursing at Fayette County Detention Center you will be responsible for the delivery of health care at the facility. You will oversee the nursing department, ensuring patient and staff safety, tracking and identifying trends in quality measures and regulatory compliance. You will serve as the lead for all matters related to the nursing practice at your facility and you will directly manage the nursing staff.

  • Plan the delivery of comprehensive, safe and effective nursing care within the framework established by contract/agreements and Corizon Health Policy & Procedure and the Corizon Health Core Process Program.

  • Implements best nursing practice strategies to maximize contract/business performance.

  • Develop and support positive, professional, collaborative relationships with clients (warden, supervisor, and/or equivalent client role) to promote client satisfaction, enhance the program

  • Participate in the interview and selection process for the hiring of all nursing staff at facility.

  • Ensures that all nursing personnel are appropriately on-boarded including verification of competency and that the on-boarding is documented in employees training files. Ensures proper verification of nursing licensures and credentialing requirements within the jurisdiction.

  • Evaluates the patient care delivery processes on a regular, systematic and frequent basis, reporting findings to appropriate leaders.

  • Identify performance improvement opportunities, take action to drive clinical improvement, and monitors progress through ongoing analysis of data and results. Implement best nursing practice strategies to maximize performance.

  • Conducts accreditation readiness audits to assess compliance with standards and identify opportunities for improvement.

  • Assists in preparing departmental budget; prepares monthly variance report.

  • Anticipates healthcare delivery and contractual issues and deals with potential issues proactively. Collaborates with site leadership and client to meet the goals of the service contract in conjunction

  • Collaborates with regional leadership to identify those areas of nursing practice and/or nursing management that are negatively impacting financial performance.

  • Develops monthly schedule for nursing staff and support staff to ensure staffing levels meet operational needs.

  • Performs clinical competency assessments and checks to promote the delivery of safe, effective and efficient nursing care. Provides developmental mentoring, formalized feedback and coaching to staff. Develops individual performance improvement plans for staff not meeting performance expectations.

  • Conducts monthly staff meetings in collaboration with site leadership. Assists site leadership with the development and maintenance of annual operational and clinical performance plans under the direction of regional operational management.

Experience & Requirements

  • Nursing degree from an accredited program.

  • Current Registered Nurse licensure (unrestricted, not probationary).

  • Five years of nursing leadership experience.

  • Current Basic Life Support/CPR Certification at the Medical Professional Level with AED Training. American Heart Association is the preferred source, but American Red Cross is acceptable.

A background check, security clearance and drug screening are required for this role.
